Coventry Sphinx will have an added incentive when they meet Eccleshall in the FA Youth Cup Third Qualifying Round next Thursday evening at Sphinx Drive. For the winners will play host to FA Premier Academy League Nottingham Forest in the first round proper after the draw was made last Friday at FA Headquarters in Soho Square.
Forest Incentive For Sphinx
Ironically this is the same draw which faced Sphinx at the same stage last season but on that occasion a difficult away trip to Kettering Town saw Sphinx lose 3-1. With home advantage this time around John Woodward's young side will be looking to go further than at any stage in the clubs history and take on the might of a League One club in the world's greatest football cup competition.
Manager John Woodward was delighted with the draw; “It's a fantastic draw but we're not there yet. We've got to make sure that we are 100% focussed on the Eccleshall game and then if we do what we have been doing lately then hopefully we will be able to look forwards to the first round proper and a home game with Nottingham Forest. It's definitely one game at a time though and I will be reminding the players that we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground”
Thursday's game at Sphinx Drive kicks off at 7.45pm and admission is £2 adults £1 for children and concessions
