The Football League have confirmed that they will put back the start of the 2012/2013 season so that it does not clash with the 2012 Olympics.

Coventry City's home is one stadium that will be used to stage Olympic football from July 27 to August 12 and the Football League have agreed that the league season in 2012 will not start until Saturday August 18th.

The Football League's Head of Communications, John Nagle said in a press statement: "Football League clubs have voted overwhelmingly in favour of delaying the start of the 2012/13 season in order to support the London Olympics.

"This decision has been taken to ensure that police and transport links are not overstretched during such an important event for the county."
