Flying The Sky Blue Flag At The World Cup

Last updated : 18 June 2010 By Rich Owen
There are three of us here in South Africa, staying in Pretoria. We've been to a game a day in Rustenburg, Pretoria and JoBurg and head off to Cape Town in the wee small hours for the Algeria game. At most games we've flown the England flag but more importantly flown the Sky Blue Flag or talked to many world fans about the wonders of the mighty Sky Blues.

Attached are some photos with a few explanations.....
1. Our flag, flying from our hotel balcony with several shout outs:

a) I (Rich Owen) brought up in Kenilworth but now living in Highgate, North London, known as Scoop. Here with Jason Wright and Adam Keyte, both from Kenilworth (left hand of flag refers to this). The flag flies opposite a Middlesborough flag (and mocks Strachan).

b) Right hand side refers to my wife to be and dog whom I have left behind for this trip. Bottom right "Where's Dave P?" refers to our mate Dave Poulton of Kenilworth. I also enclose a pic of him from the Torquay away game in 2009 (big bald head!) Dave came to every England qualifier with us, but then was forced to bail at the last moment when his wife Elke banned him, so this trip is a testament to Dave "Trig" P. We miss him. We have seen Elke here howver in the shape of Diego Forlan (spitting images).

2. A few photos of me and Jason being interviewed and filmed by BBC Arabia after the Holland-Denmark game. They wanted questions about the World Cup and England but we tried to discuss Aidy Boothroyd and the new season. They did let us film our flag though and if anybody can find this on youtube please let us know!

3. A photo of me in the 70's brown glory tracksuit and a ghana hat, my new adopted team after sitting and dancing with the Ghana band following the win over Serbia.
