First Win Will Bring Confidence - Shaw

Coventry City caretaker manager Richard Shaw has said that a first win for City will see the players ooze confidence.

City have two League Cup victories but are still to have a victory after four matches in League One.

Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Shaw said: “I think once we get that first win then the boys will start oozing confidence and start enjoying their football – I think that’s all it needs.

“We had a really good day on Monday, looking back at the Crewe game and then we went out onto the training pitch and worked on what we could improve on and the lads were really bright and sharp in terms of keeping the ball and passing it, and all we asked them to do on Tuesday was take that out into the game.

“And of course they found it difficult to replicate that.

“Whether that was because of the low crowd, it’s difficult to put your finger on. But the disappointing thing is we all know what they are capable of and the ability that they have.

“I’d love to be Barcelona and sit back and watch people play but the reality is we’re in League One and players will make mistakes and they do need coaching, and it’s hard work at times.

“It can be hard work watching and playing but we have got to realise where we are, and what we’re doing is striving to get out of where we are, which we will do.

“But we’ve got no divine right to go out and win, and teams will make it difficult by setting up to make it hard for us.”
