The meeting of IFAB today has announced that they have dropped the proposal of a twenty minute half time interval.

FIFA withdrew the propsal at the meeting in Newcastle, County Down, saying it makes no sense.

Many managers had said that players would get cold or lose their concentration if the break was extended whilst some clubs supported the idea on the basis that they could sell more beer or food.

FIFA are to look at having another assistant referee behind each goal. Italy and France have announced that they are interested in being guinea pigs for a season before it was rolled out sometime around 2012.

The board which includes the FA's of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and FIFA, will also look at the proposal to increase the maximum number of substitutions in the event of extra time.
