FA Launch Policy For Transgendered Players

The Football Association have today, launched a policy on transgender and transsexual people playing football in a bid to make the game open to everyone.

Any transsexual or transgender person wishing to play in their affirmed gender can seek to do so by contacting The FA to obtain clearance.

The application will take the form of a confidential conversation with the applicant and details of the evidence that The FA would require will be discussed with the person concerned.

The FA will now approve a players’ application to play in their affirmed gender if they can demonstrate that hormonal therapy appropriate for the assigned sex has been administered in a verifiable manner and for a sufficient length of time, or the individual has had gonedectomy so that any gender-related advantage in football is minimised.
