According to Rich Widdowson, Worcester City Community Director, the FA Cup is a life line for clubs like Worcester City.

Worcester survive, playing their home games at Kidderminster on gates of around 500, a far cry from the 3,000+ plus, they are expected to bring to the Ricoh Arena for the FA Cup tie against Coventry City on Sunday and Widdowson told the FA.com that the FA Cup is the best thing in the world for non-league clubs due to its prize funds and chances to play the top sides in the country for the teams that progress through to the third round.

"Financially it’s changed the club," Widdowson said. "We always say that when we get to play in the Third Round Qualifying that we’re only four or five games away from potentially turning the club around completely.

"For non-League football, The FA Cup is the best thing in the world because there’s no other way clubs at our level could even dream of raising that amount of money.

"We’ve been saying it for as long as I can remember but Manchester United away in the Third Round saves the club," he said.

"If we got that it would change our club forever – it really is as simple as that. That small amount of money for Premier League clubs is a lifeblood for us."
