Michael Doyle has signed a contract extension which will take him up to June 2011. The midfielder had been the subject of speculation about a move to Birmingham City with rumours of an August move to pay off the bank if the takeover does not go ahead doing the rounds.

Speaking to the club website,Iain Dowie was delighted with the deal saying: "This is a huge signing for us. "I've had more than a few enquires, some from Premiership clubs, and that shows how highly regarded Michael is.

"He's got Premiership energy, has been in the side whenever available, and was instrumental in the success we had when I arrived as manager.

"We have an exceptional relationship and his ambition matches my own. "I'm delighted we've manage to sort out contracts for some excellent young players already at the club so soon into the summer."

"I think it's an exciting time to be at the club," said Doyle speaking to the club website, "it's definitely the most positive since I joined and hopefully next season promotion to the Premiership can be aim.

"For the last four years we haven't really threatened to break into the top-six and last season we didn't live up to early expectations. "I spoke to the manager last week about his plans and ideas for future and we share the same ambitions.

"I love the club but I also want to achieve great things as a player and I think signing for another four years is a big commitment from the club as it is from me."

He went on to say: "Since Iain arrived, the whole mentally of the place has changed and all the players really believe that under him we can bring success to Coventry City. "He knows what it takes to get into the Premiership after winning promotion with Crystal Palace a few years ago and he's very ambitious to do that again here.

"I just want to be part of that, so signing a new contract wasn't a difficult decision."
