Michael Doyle is said that he is confident that City are going in the right direction.

Said the midfielder to the CT: "I have spoken to the manager a lot in recent months, both towards the end of the season and over the last few weeks and he has convinced me it is the right thing to do. "I wanted to be sure that the club is going in the right direction and he assured me that he would not have taken the job in the first place unless he thought there was potential to get promotion.

"And when push came to shove, the thought of leaving Coventry and then the club getting promotion without me didn't bear thinking about. "I want to be part of that success. "I know the last four years have not been great, but the club is so well organised and run now that it can only go forward. "I was very lucky to come to this club.

"When I left Celtic, I could have gone back to Ireland to become a plumber or play in the Irish League but Gary McAllister gave me a two-year contract. "I wasn't the best of players when I first started out but I feel I have improved a lot and I desperately want to repay the fans and help bring them the success they deserve.

"Like everyone else, I hope the takeover happens to enable the manager to bring in some quality and experienced players to take us to the next level. The players get just as excited as the fans do when the club signs new players, especially if they are recognised names.

"We have got a fantastic stadium and although we only averaged something like 20,000 last year, I really feel there is another 5-6,000 to come back. "But that is down to us, the players, to make sure we get them back by playing well and winning games."
