Former Coventry City captain Michael Doyle has said that he is gutted to be leaving Sheffield United after four seasons.

Doyle joined The Blades from City in 2011 and went on to make 188 appearances but has been told by Nigel Clough that his contract will not be renewed.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, "I'm gutted. I've enjoyed every minute.

"I would have liked to have found out earlier, so I could have said goodbye to the fans properly. They've always shown me great respect and I hope I've done the same for them.

"I hoped to stay here, but I think I always knew there was a danger I wouldn't be.

"Although it's disappointing to be walking away from Sheffield United, it is exciting to see what else is out there.

"It's a matter of seeing what is the best situation for me and my family. You never know where you might end up."
