Dowie On City Win

Iain Dowie has been talking after City's 2-1 win at Glentoran.

Said the City boss to the club website: "We're disappointed not to keep a clean sheet but that's sometimes what happens in testimonial games.

"Leon McKenzie worked hard and really deserved his goal and I thought Robbie Simpson looked very bright when he came on. Isaac put in a good shift too and I was happy with that.

"There were definitely some positives to come out of the game and I thought we looked a real threat. Late in the game we could have had four or five and really I feel like we should have had four or five. We were a little bit sloppy defensively at times and we have to put that right before the season starts. These are the things we have to iron out.

"We will have another competitive game on Saturday at Ballymena and I know where we are in terms of pre-season. The lads have been working their socks off and I think it's important to remember that some of the lads who played today had three sessions - swimming at 7am, training before lunch and then a weights session in the afternoon. They were heavy legged and we expect that but it won't be the same when the season starts.

"Overall I am very pleased with the way it is shaping up. Ellery has come on and got another 20 minutes, Julian Gray will play on Saturday so we didn't have the natural width tonight and I think we missed that. I will keep the rotation going on Saturday and then we will probably start to focus in a bit. I think we're really looking at the Udinese game because the Espanyol game is a bonus for us and we'll also try and get a few more 90 minutes for a couple of the lads. Competition is very stiff at the moment."
