Coventry City manager Iain Dowie is hoping that he gets a big Christmas present this year and is able "push the button" and bring in new players when the transfer window opens on New Years Day.

To do this, he'll need monies paid to Southampton to get the transfer embargo lifted by whoever takes over the club and a budget to work with. If this were to come about, then Dowie has said he is ready to strike.

Speaking to the CT,Dowie said: "We've had two scouting meetings over the last few weeks and we are well prepared to push the button on one or two if we can.

"Obviously,it depends on the market, whether we are at Harrods or Aldi and that is no disrespect to Aldi. "It is important that we know and it looks like we will this week."

Meanwhile, City have again been linked with Wigan's FItz Hall. A long time friend of Iain Dowie, the 26 year defender is also reported as interesting Norwich City and QPR
