Don't Mess Us About - Bruce

Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce has warned the Sky Blues not to mess him about with their interest in Gary McSheffrey.

Speaking to the Birmingham Evening Mail, Bruce said: "I think we've put in a really, really generous offer. "Obviously myself and the board now have a decision to make, and we will think things through.

"Of course, he's their player, it's their prerogative and we might have to pay a little bit over the odds because of the way the market is, but nobody is going to take the Mickey out of us, that's for sure.

"Strikers at the right price are not easy to find. You can't just conjure them out of thin air. "But McSheffrey fits the criteria and the bill of what we are looking for at the moment. He's young, hungry and enthusiastic and scored 17 goals last season. "This is what happens, though. It's the same situation with all of our big players too, like Emile Heskey. We weren't just going to let him go for nothing. "So, we will have to see what develops over the next 24 to 48 hours."

City have lost out to Brum in the past over transfers. Peter Ndlovu,Gary Breen and Liam Daish are just three case in points and the Sky Blues Board have stated that they do not want McSheffrey to go but if the striker does go, then it will be for an amount they find acceptable.

A poll currently running by our good mates at GMK has 39.6% of City supporters not wanting McSheffrey to be sold with the most of the rest wanting a fee of £4m+
