Digger Daley Dead

Former Coventry City player Alan James Daley has died at the age of eighty,report the club website.

Known as "Digger" to his team mates and supporters, Daley joined City in 1958 from Crewe after starting his Footbal League career in Spetember 1946.

Previous clubs before he signed for Crewe included Mansfield,Hull,Bangor, Worksop,Doncaster, Peterbrough, Boston,Scunthorpe,Corby and Mansfield again.

Daley made his debut against Crystal Palace in November 1958 and was part of the City team which was promoted from the Fourth Division.

The outside left,lost his place to Stuart Imlach and left to join Cambridge United in January 1961. He came back to the Midlands to play for Buton Albion and Sutton Coldfield Town before retiring to become a market trader.
