This morning there is some confusion surrounding the transfer of Coventry City's left back, Danny Fox.

It is thought that the 'City board have accepted an offer from Celtic for the defender. Some newspapers reported the fee to be £1.4m, which is considerably less than the the £1.6m thought to have been tabled by Nottingham Forest and labelled "pathetic" by 'City manager Chris Coleman.

Later reports put the fee at figures staring from £2m to £3.5m. However, there are also reports that the deal is not yet done.

The Daily Mail claims the deal has some way to go before being completed and that Nottingham Forest and Reading are preparing new bids to beat the Celtic bid.

Scotland's Daily Record has reported that the deal went through before the deadline and claim the fee to be £2m. The Coventry Telegraph claim the fee to be £3m.

Danny Fox has played for England under 21, but he also qualifies to play for Scotland because his grandfather is Scottish. Fox is on record as saying he would love to play for Scotland and a move to Celtic would do his international chances no harm at all.

Under UEFA regulations, to be eligible to play in European club competitions, new signings must be completed by 23:00 hrs on July 23rd. However, there is a loophole in this regulation which states that one player may be signed by a club up to 24 hours before the kick off of a European competition. That means that Celtic have until Tuesday 28th to complete the deal if they have missed last nights deadline. Celtic have a Champions League qualifying game against Dynamo Moscow next Wednesday.

What is in no doubt is the reaction of 'City fans to the news of Fox's departure. Message boards and forums are buzzing with anger at the board with some fans saying they are glad they haven't bought their season tickets yet and others complaining that they have wasted their money in buying theirs.

In the past, Coventry City fans have always been optimistic at the start of a new season, full of confidence of a successful season, but at he start of this season there is despondency and gloom, with many fans predicting a relegation struggle.
