With the busy part of the January transfer window rapidly approaching, Coventry City fans will be hoping their better players stay and some new talent comes in.

The two big name players most often linked with a move away from The Ricoh are Keiran Westwood and Leon Best.

Everton have long been linked with Westwood, but it has emerged the the Toffees have signed Slovakian international Jan Mucha from Legia Warsaw on a free transfer. It is now unlikely that Everton will now want to pursue their previous interest in the highly rated Irish international 'keeper.

Sunderland might still be in with a bid, but now the Craig Gordon is fit again , the need for a replacement goal keeper is not so important.

Middlesborough boss Gordon Strachan is keen to add to his injury ravished squad and is thought to be preparing a bid for out of contract Leon Best.

Stachan told Mirror Sport, "We have to bring more players in. If we can get everyone fit then fine, but I can't see that. We have 11 major players out, so they did well considering. I can stay positive. I can't make a song and dance about things, deal with it. On chances and the rest of it we did very well."

On the other side of the transfer coin, the proposed signing of Carlisle striker Gary Madine has stalled over disagreements over the transfer fee. Madine had three month loan spell at Coventry where he failed to win over the fans, but City boss. Chris Coleman is keen on signing the teenage striker.

Madine has returned to Carlisle, where he was a substitute in Saturday game against Stockport County. Madine came off the bench toward the end of the goalless draw.
