Coventry To Start Season Confident Of Promotion

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said he believes his players will start the new season quietly confident that they will be good enough to win promotion back to the Championship.

City are one of the bookies favourites to gain promotion and Thorn will instill confidence into his players when they return to pre-season training in July.

Some of the players have already had experience of playing in the third tier of English football so know what to expect. Carl Baker joined Coventry from Stockport County in July 2010 for whom he scored 13 goals from midfield during a five month period in 2009/10

Thorn said to the CT's Andy Turner: “Bakes knows his way round that league and he was unlucky with his injuries last season, so he’s desperate to get going again and we need players like him to be right on top of his game.

“The young boys as well, they’ve had their taste of the Championship and they know what it’s about and what’s required. They have all seen the celebrations at Southampton and Norwich before and that’s what we want. It would be nice to have our own party and that’s what we’ll aim for.

“They have all got to be bang at it when we come back and give 210 per cent, like we always do. I think we’ve got quality in the side and will have more quality in the side, especially if we can add who we want to add, and I think we’ll have a really good chance and we need to hit the ground running because pre-season is going to be really tough.

“It’s important that we’re pro-active and on the front foot, and who knows what the pre-season is going to throw up because the last two seasons we saw Nathan Cameron and Cyrus Christie come through pre-season and all of a sudden started. So it’s an important time and we can’t carry passengers.”
