CCFC Veterans 4 v Nuneaton Town Supporters 4/5

Cov Vets drew/lost in a close game in front of a new record crowd of 14 people and a dog. Have these people not got anything else to do?

Captain Tony Malone won the toss for the 6th game in a row.
The vets started off playing a 442 formation against a very young Nuneaton side. If they get any younger we will need to introduce CRB/police checks.

The Vets started well and had the early pressure. They went 1-0 up when Aron broke through to score a great goal. The goal came from a great dummy by Andy.

Mckay then had two great assists. Unfortunately they were both for Nuneaton who went 2-1 up. The second involved playing a ball of his knees!

With Tony demanding the number 8, got picked up, rumour has it he even lectured the bus driver about his marking on the way to the game, the vets got back into the game with a second from Aron.

The new look back four of Tony, Kev, new lad Martin and Pud were holding solid.

Towards the end of the first half the Vets conceded another goal to go in 3-2 down.

McKay made changes bringing in Dave into centre midfield. Putting Stato at left mid, with Andy filling in at left back.

Dave making his debut added a bit of steel in midfield in his first game for over a year.

The Vets let in another goal to go 4-2 down. But back they came with Gav having another good game. Craig pulled up and on came Adam. With Stato drifting out on the wing the Vets started to get back into the game.

Much to the delight of the crowd for the comical value, McKay came on. He then played a ball to young Andy who beat 3 players and crossed a quality ball into the box. Adam arriving late at the back and slotted the ball home. It was a great move.

Nuneaton then scored a controversial goal when one of their players standing in an off side position scored. Despite the protests the Ref over ruled the linesman and gave the goal. To be fair he was only 3 yards off!!

With the Vets needed to chase the game they went to a 3-4-3 formation. With Martin having a solid game, a good ball to Aron made it 5-4.

With 2 minutes left the Vets couldn't get the deserved equaliser.
In all a good performance and we should have got a draw.

Speaking to the national media later Mckay said "We are all Cov and put cats in the bin. We played well today but a couple of stupid errors by me cost us".

Lots of good performances particularly Big Andy and Kev. Man of the match has to be Aron for his hat-trick and was last seen walking off with the match ball.
