Cov City Girls beat Coundon Court 2-1 in a West Midlands Regional League fixture this afternoon.

Alan Beaseley's side went into the game at Coventry Sphinx FC in fourth place and they took on a Coundon Court side which had been top of the table until Worcester United took over.

The game was played in an excellent spirit and saw Cov take the lead in the 18th minute when an Adele Kenny cross was helped into the net by the Coundon keeper and Jo Ryan.

In the 36th minute, Cov had a second when they were awarded a free kick some twenty yards out and this time, the Coundon keeper could not prevent Rheo Donnelly's free kick from going in on her near post.

Coundon lost a player following a hefty but fair challenge which caused a delay in the game but after Cov missed a couple of good chances early in the second half, the visitors pulled a goal back in the 71st minute when they got through and slipped the ball past the advancing Kerry Williamson.

The Cov keeper might not have been able to do anything about that goal but following a number of attacks being stopped by Cov's central defender, Coundon were given a free kick in the closing minutes.

Williamson threw herself across the goal and pushed away the free kick to ensure that Cov completed their last home game of 2015 with a win against a battling Coundon side.
