Coventry City Council have rejected calls for the members of the 1987 FA Cup winning team to be given Honorary Freedom to the City of Coventry.

Jane Barlow from the Lord Mayor's Office in Coventry said: "The current view is that the City Council recognised the FA Cup win at the time in 1987, by way of the official home-coming event, and hosting a civic reception for the management and players at the time to mark their achievements.

"To recognise the players further, after this length of time, is not considered appropriate."
