Coventry City manager Chris Coleman is being cautious about using his youngsters against Ipswich Town on Sunday. (Kick off 1.15pm)

There is nothing riding on the game but Ipswich will want to put on a show for new manager Roy Keane and the City manager is all too aware that this could make for a tough afternoon.

"The problem is when you play kids you don't want them to be on the end of a three, four or five nil because that could affect them for a long time and they don't deserve that," said Coleman to the CT.

"But I don't think the kids can do any worse that the lads on Saturday in all honesty and maybe we will spend a bit of extra time with them this week, coaching-wise, and tactically because looking at some of our guys they looked physically and mentally tired.

"They looked like they have had the stuffing knocked out of them and it is hard to try to pick them up every week, so I wouldn't rule out playing some of the academy players on Sunday."

Jermaine Grandison is one player who could feature and Coleman said about the defender: "In different circumstances, if we had been in a really good run of games I would have put Jermaine on instead of James McPake against Watford, but it is hard to put the young kids on at the moment because the atmosphere is not right, games are difficult and it is not fair on them.

"Normally I would put Jermaine on at centre-back because James is not ready really, but he has got way more experience.

"As it happened Isaac Osbourne came off with blurred vision so Jermaine got his chance at right-back.

"To be fair to our kids they have made their debuts in really difficult circumstances and that will stand them in good stead, so maybe that's a blessing as well.

"They have come into a team that's not winning and had they done it in January and February it would have been easier for them. "But hopefully that will do them some good in the long run."
