Club Face Bill For Damage

Coventry City face a bill for around £30,000 after police had to be called into the stadium after a number of incidents yesterday during the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Money that could have been given to players on pay as you play or non-contracts will have to be spent repairing three seats which were demolished during a fight in Block 15/16.

The police were called in to assist stewards removing a ticketless "fan" who abused a female steward. As the police entered the stadium, their bill will have to be met by the club who could do without this extra expense.

One Brighton web-site described a section of the City support as "Neanderthal". BHA Vital Football said: "A section of Coventry supporters subjected the 1,582 Albion fans to the most sustained barrage of homophobic chanting of the season - including abuse that went further than the sort we have become sadly accustomed to. They may have a big new stadium worthy of the 21st Century, but a minority of their fans are strictly Neanderthal and don't deserve it."
