It has emerged that Coventry City have offered several of their key players contract extensions in order to provide some semblance of stability and to prevent a repeat of the chaos that caused anger from the club and fans alike when King, Westwood and Gunnarsson all left the club for free despite being offered new deals.

Club captain Sammy Clingan, whose current contract expires in the summer, was offered a new deal two months ago, but has yet to sign. He is currently with the Northern Ireland squad preparing for their European Championship qualifying games against Italy and Estonia.

Other players offered contract extensions include Gary McSheffrey and Martin Cranie. James McPake and David Bell have already agreed and signed their new contracts.

In his usual ebullient mood, City manager Andy Thorn told the CT, “We are hoping that Sammy takes it.”
