Clapham - A Good Workout

Coventry City Assistant Manager Jamie Clapham said it was a good workout for the Sky Blues who won 2-1 at Rugby Town on Tuesday night.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Clapham said:  “It was a good workout and gave players who had a certain amount of game time on Saturday a rest so others got it.

“The rest of the squad were at the training ground being put through their paces earlier today so we should be on a level playing field in terms of where they are now. We now lead up to a big final push to the start of the season.

“I don’t think there should be any signs of panic in pre-season games. We controlled large parts of the game which I would expect and the players should expect in these sorts of games.

“It was difficult conditions as you could see from the pitch and the football was pretty light, hard and bouncy. But the main thing is they are all fit and all come through the game fine, and they are learning every day that goes by the style and system we want to play.

“Kyle Spence has had a really good pre-season, he looked lively on tour and did really well when he came on as a substitute to win the penalty against Graz and he’s been a real plus. But there were a lot of plusses out there tonight. The fitness is there and we scored a couple more goals.”
