Coventry City need to beat Cheltenham Town in normal time in their final Checkatrade Trophy Round One game on Tuesday November 13th and hope that there is a result in the Forest Green Rovers versus Arsenal game in normal time, if they are to get into the second round of the competition they won in 2017.
In City’s Southern Section Group E tonight, Cheltenham Town were at home to Arsenal U21’s, who had beaten the Sky Blues 3-0 in their first game.
Cheltenham, fielding former City midfielder Conor Thomas, took the lead on eight minutes after Arsenal were reduced to ten men, following Robbie Burton being sent off for a foul on Jacob Maddox. That led to a free kick and from it, Chris Clements scored.
In the 32nd minute, Will Boyle headed home to put Cheltenham two goals up before Arsenal came back with a goal from Tyreece John Jules two minutes later after he rounded Scott Flinders to see Cheltenham, who lost their first game against Forest Green Rovers 4-0, going in 2-1 ahead at the break.
Three minutes into the second half and it was three for the Robins with Jacob Maddox on target and in the 51st minute, Maddox got up to head home and make it 4-1.
Conor Thomas was replaced in the 59th minute of a game which saw a penalty for Arsenal in the 66th minute when John Jules was brought down by Flinders and Charlie Gilmour scored from the resulting penalty.
With six minutes to go, Kelsey Mooney scored for the Robins and in the first minute of stoppage time, substitute Ryan Broom scored to give Cheltenham a 6-2 victory in front of a crowd of 1,434 with 431 Arsenal supporters. .
