City V Sunderland - Interesting On And Off The Pitch

As well as the clash of two of the biggest teams in League One between Coventry City and Sunderland, what will also be interesting will be how the day and game is managed by the new safety officer at the Ricoh Arena.

The last time, the Sky Blues had what could be classed as a big crowd was the play-off game against Notts County where there were incidents which ended up with City supporters unable to buy tickets in blocks 14\15\16 unless they are season ticket holders.

So, the first home game where over 15,000 tickets have been sold, is always going to give rise to questions as to how it will be handled.

The 4,900 Sunderland fans will pose their own problems with resources having to be given to keeping the minuscule minority with sinister intent who are hell bent on disgracing their team and fellow supporters away from the Memorial Gardens and Jimmy Hill statue, as well as getting them and everyone else into the ground and then back to their modes of transport safely.

All this is going to mean a busy day for the stewards and the Barnsley game saw agency staff stewards from as far away as Kingston Upon Hull being used along side the contracted stewards, many of whom have worked for the Sky Blues for years and would be relied upon by City supporters in case of emergency.

Due to not having enough contracted stewards, agency staff have become a necessity at the Ricoh Arena but that does not mean that supporters safety in a stadium should be compromised by only having agency staff who do not know the layout of the Ricoh Arena or the City supporters, whose safety they are supposed to be ensuring.

Both on and off the pitch, City's game against Sunderland will provide plenty of interest.
