Coventry City have said that they will stand by Leon McKenzie who has a ruptured Achillies tendon.

City manager Chris Coleman visited a devasted McKenzie in hospital yesterday and said that the club would stand by the former Norwich man who is out of contract in the summer and could be out for anything up to nine months with this latest injury.

On McKenzie, Coleman said to the CT: "He is devastated and all the players are disappointed for him but we will look after him and get him back.

"First and foremost, he is a good person - a fantastic lad - who has worked so hard to get back from the thigh injury he had last year.

"He had another one this this year on his opposite leg and got back from that and now his Achillies has gone. It is unlucky and just one of those things. Of course, we will look after his rehabilitation.

"I have spoken to the Chairman and I don't think any club would let a player hang out to dry certainly not Leon McKenzie who is a model professional.

"He's been really unfortunate and I went to see him in hospital yesterday and at the minute he is very, very down but we will make sure we look after him.

"I had already had a conversation with him about his contract and I said we would sit down towards the end of the season. Unfortunately, he has had another injury but we are still going to talk about next year to try and keep him at the club."

All at Covsupport News Service wish Leon a speedy recovery.
