City To Play Training Ground Game

Coventry City will play a training game on Friday.

The club were offered a public pre-season game against a local side, which would have created some good publicity and might have helped improve the club's links with other clubs in the area, as well as a behind closed doors match against a local side but they have decided on a full training match at Ryton on Friday.

“We could have arranged another match but we declined it because we wanted to control all the players’ minutes on the pitch," Tony Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.

“Ideally the senior players will be getting 60 minutes each rather than 45 minutes they got over the two halves at Nuneaton.

“This way we can control the environment a little better and then we will give them the weekend to recover from the first couple of weeks of pre-season.

“We’ll push on next week because the games are coming thick and fast after that with Portsmouth, Luton and then Cambridge and Oxford during the week as well as weekends, so we’ll be into it by then.”
