It has emerged that Coventry City have tried to sign Derby striker Rob Hulse on loan until the end of the season, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer, but Derby County rejected the move.

Coventry chairman Ray Ranson contacted Derby about the possibility of taking Hulse on loan, but it soon became apparent that this would not happen.

Coventry City are thought to be keen to strengthen their attacking options and will make the signing of Rob Hulse a summer priority.

Coventry City have also been closely watching the Peterborough strikers Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith.

The Sky Blues have aleady signed the young West Ham striker Freddy Sears on loan and are waiting for a decision from Ipswich's Jon Stead about a move to The Ricoh.
