City Supporting Boxers Earn Victories

Coventry City supporting boxers Steve Bendall and Neil Simpson both had points victories last night. At half full Sky Dome, Tile Hill based Steve Bendall retained his British Masters Cruiserweight title with a closely fought points victory (79-74) over Frenchman Ismael Kerazzi.

Cruiserweight Neil Simpson from the Willenhall Boxing Club did not let a fight in the crowd put him off from beating Featherstone's Paul Bonson on points (60-54) in an eight round contest.

In fact it was a good night for the local based boxers bar Leamington's Richard Mazurek who lost to Ernie Smith on points. Bedworth's Neil Tidman won his first fight as a professional with a points victory over Leroy Williamson. Keresley's Joe McCluskey remained undefeated at Lightweight level with a good points win over Wolverhampton's Carl Allen.

Andy Holder from Willenhall won the IBF Intercontinental Middleweight title gained revenge on Roddy Doran by stopping the Shrewbury based boxer at the end of the seventh round.

In the main fight of the night, Carl Wright needed only one minute and nine seconds of the first round to win the British Masters Cruiserweight title. The Rugby based southpaw hammered Bradford's Nat Joseph much to the delight of a big following that included a number of City supporters.
