Long time Coventry City supporter Joe Rukin is to stand in the forthcoming General Election.

Mr Rukin, who is a former editor of the GMK fanzine and a campaigner from the days when Bryan Richardson and Michael McGinnity were in charge of the club, is standing as an Independant Candidate for Kenilworth & Southam.

This time, the Sky Blues is not on his agenda, Joe is standing after the deposit was raised by public support in a couple of days to fight plans for the high speed trains which will tear through the Warwickshire countryside not stopping at Coventry station.

Writing on his website, Joe said: "I am standing because of the very real threat that High Speed Rail is not only to the Kenilworth and Southam Constituency, but to all of us, as the current quote is 2-4% of the current massive national debt. All major parties suppport what is in effect a 'Club Class' train."
