City Still Sixteenth

Coventry City remain sixteenth in the Championshiip table after this afternoon's fixtures.

The top two Wolves and Birmingham drew 1-1 at Molineux and the rest of the top six stay was you were. Reading and Cardiff who travel to South Wales rivals Swansea City tomorrow morning obviously didn't play but Burnley beat Derby 3-0 whilst Sheffield United left it until the last minute to earn a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

Nottingham Forest, who travel to Coventry in seven days time, beat Barnsley 1-0 with a 36th minute Garner goal. Blackpool won 2-1 at Plymouth,Sheff Wed beat Norwich 3-2 and Preston beat Bristol City 2-0.

Bottom side Doncaster drew 1-1 at Watford whilst third from bottom Charlton could only draw 0-0 with Southampton at the Valley.

Gary Borrowdale sat on the bench for QPR in their 0-0 draw at his former club Crystal Palace.

In the FA Cup, Eastwood beat Wycombe (Scott Shearer played for Pete Taylor's side) 2-0 whilst Forest Green, who included Lee Fowler, beat Rochdale by the same score. Droylesden were winning 1-0 at Chesterfield when their match was abandoned at half-time. Blyth Spartans earned a replay after a 0-0 draw at AFC Bournemouth.

Chris Birchall was not even on the bench for Carlisle in their 2-0 win at Grays Athletic in a first round replay.

Locally, Rugby Town were pegged back after being 3-1 up at Merthyr Tydfil and drew 3-3. Kolodinski hit a hat-trick for Tony Dobson's side.

Leamington are back top of Southern League Midland Division with a 3-0 win over Atherstone. A crowd of 1,002 was at the Old Windmill for this top of the table game and they saw Micky Bellingham score twice with a Storer own goal making it 3-0 to the Brakes.

Third placed Nuneaton Town beat Sutton Coldfield in front of a crowd of 626 at Liberty Way. Foster opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Former Sky Blue Robert Oddy and Jez Murphy both converted penalties.

Bedworth United beat Rothwell 1-0 with Robbie Beard on the mark in the 73rd minute.

Both Massey Ferguson and Southam United's Midland Combination games were called off.

In Division 3, Coventry Amatuers lost 2-1 at Clements 83.

In the Coventry Telegraph Cup Third Round, Coventry Copsewood beat Alveston 2-0 with Middleton scoring in the 20th & 62nd minutes whilst a 50th minute goal from Ashley Wilks was enough to beat Bedworth Ex Service.
