City Old Boy Plays In Ireland Defeat

Former Coventry City captain Richard Keogh was in the starting eleven for the Republic Of Ireland in their second game in the USA and a 5-1 defeat to Portugal..

Keogh started the game against Portugal, who play their first World Cup game against Germany on Monday, at the Met Life Stadium in New Jersey and lost his marker in the second minute to allow Almeida to head home from a Virella cross, watched by a crowd of 46,063.

In the 20th minute, things got worse for Keogh when he deflected a cross from Fabio Coentrao into his own net.

Sixteen minutes later, Portugal had a third when Millwall keeper David Forde flapped at a Ronaldo header and Almeida banged home the loose ball.

Ireland pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute through James McLean, following a quickly taken Wes Hoolahan free kick and twelve minutes later, they sent on former Coventry City forward Robbie Keane, who came on and took over as captain.
