Former Coventry City defender Stuart Pearce has been put in charge of the England national team.

The FA have put Pearce, who is the England U21 boss, in charge for the friendly against Holland following the resignation yesterday of Fabio Capello.

FA Chairman David Bernstein told the Press Association at a Press Conference:  "I can announce that Stuart Pearce will manage the England team against Holland.

"He has huge experience outside and inside the organisation. He has been working with the under-21 team and has been working with Fabio for some time. I have got great confidence in Stuart, we will be in good hands.

"Our priority then will be to appoint a new England manager."

Pearce becomes the third man of a home country to have City links with Chris Coleman at Wales and former City midfielder Michael O'Neill, the newly appointed Northern Ireland boss.
