Coventry City have made new signing Reda Johnson the club captain.

The defender, who is away on international duty with Benin ahead of the their African Nations Cup Qualfier with Malawi takes over from Carl Baker, a player many City supporters believe is on his way out of the club, despite taking a pay cut.

Steven Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: "I spoke with Carl last week about my intentions to change the captaincy and have decided after much deliberation to name Reda Johnson.

"There were obviously a number of candidates within the squad but I felt Reda had the necessary qualities to lead the side.

"He has great experience in Championship football and also has experienced promotion from this division.

"He brings stature, strength and mentality to the group and I'm sure he will prove to be a popular figure with our supporters."
