Coventry City Ladies started their League Cup Group 3 campaign with a 1-0 victory against Sporting Club Albion.

At Halesowen Town, Danni Saulter and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk had early chances before Saulter, Dale and Sweetman-Kirk played in Edwards whose left footed finish clipped the outside of the post.

It was Cheryl Edwards who gave Paul Cudby's side the lead when the sweetest of half volleys from Cheryl Edwards in the 21st minute went over the keeper and into the net from a Nicky Miles ball.

Nicole Dale sidefooted wide before the half came to a close.

The Sky Blues had a wobbly start to the second half, surviving a penalty appeal for handball and Baptist's header just going over.

Sweetman-Kirk sent a header from a Helen Dermody free kick on to the roof of the net and then fired over the bar as City took the win.

City; Wood, Wilcox, Lynch, Walton, Hollingsworth, Miles, Dermody, Edwards, Saulter, Sweeten-Kirk, Dale

In the other Group 3 match, Aston Villa won 4-0 at Derby County
