Coventry City Ladies breezed into the Birmingham County FA Womens Cup Quarter-Finals with an 8-0 victory over Coventry Ladies Development.

Against a team four divisions below them, City, who had Scott Riddell taking the team, were on the attack early.

A third minute Dermody corner which just missed a throng of players at the far post was followed by a second which was scrambled away.

In the eight minute, Dermody rounded Kerry Williamson and found Danni Saulter who got in a shot which was cleared off the line.

City took the lead in the 13th minute when Danni Saulter got the ball on the right and sent an audacious twenty yarder which sailed into the net.

Coventry had a shot at Sue Wood through their centre forward in the 21st minute but City went up the other end and Hayley Ladd was brought down for a penalty. Helen Dermody stepped up and scored.

City continued to create chances with Sweetman-Kirk, Dermody and Lynch, having efforts around the half hour mark.

Williamson made two more good saves before the half ended.

The cup holders, who used both their subs at the break, got straight on the attack as the second half restarted with two corners, Williamson saving from Sweetman-Kirk and Archibald sending a free header wide.

In the 50th minute, Katherine Clarke put the Sky Blues 3-0 up with a well placed header.

Four minutes later and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was through. She flicked the ball on, just as a very heavy tackle came in. Referee Paul Tapp had the decision to award the goal or send off the defender and award a penalty. A goal was awarded and City went four goals up.

A terrific save left Williamson needing treatment. She resumed and watched a 63rd minute Dermody lob go over the bar and in the next attack, City went nap when Sweetman-Kirk swept in from a corner.

Dermody hit the post in the 66th minute as the seige on the Coventry goal continued.

Sweetman-Kirk completed her hat-trick in the 69th minute after Williamson got to her initial shot and she tapped in the loose ball.

An injury to a Development player, which was diagnosed as chest pains, in the 73rd minute delayed proceedings.

There were more injuries to more City Development players who can be proud of their efforts in restricting the Sky Blues before City were in seventh heaven when Natasha Lynch headed in just before the end of normal time.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Sweetman-Kirk scored from close range to record her fourth goal and City's place in Round Four.
