City Ladies Offer Support For Brum Plight

Birmingham City Ladies have until Friday to save the club from possible extinction. The Board of Birmingham City FC pulled the promised £60k commitment after backers failed to come forward to underwrite the investment. Despite appeals by Sir Trevor Brooking to Karen Brady, the Board failed to see that supporting the side with a large number of full England Internationals is a worthwhile investment.

Coventry City Ladies have been taking a keen interest in the Birmingham situation and have appealed personally to Trevor Brooking, directors at the club and the office of Karen Brady.

They have issued a statement saying: "Whilst we have our own financial battles to fight, we cannot allow this situation to emerge and would urge Karen and her Board to reconsider their decision. We have built a great relationship with Steve Shipway and Marcus Bignot and have been able to exchange players over previous seasons. They have been able to take players to a higher level and we have been able to sign players who have really helped develop our club. They have an enormous amount of talent in the club and under their leadership do a great job for ladies football. We hope that they secure funding and avoid ladies football going into a potential spiral. We know that over coming seasons, we will have players who will need to play in the Premier League to benefit their playing career, and hope that they will not have to travel 100 miles to do so"
