Coventry City Ladies are through to the WPL League Cup Quarter-Final after a 1-0 victory against Barnet.

For City's first ever WPL League Cup Second Round tie, City Ladies boss Paul Cudby had forward Courtney Sweetman-Kirk available on a sunny day at Bedworth United.

City, who raised over £600 from a bucket collection at the Ricoh Arena yesterday, had the better of the first half with Kerry Barlett striking the bar in the seventh minute.

A strong Sky Blues midfield put the pressure on the North Londoners and in the 24th minute, a well executed move saw Sweetman-Kirk cross from the right for the incoming Kerry Bartlett to sweep into the net.

Emily Simpkins tried her luck with a deflected shot at Rowlands before a good half ended with Jade Formaston and Sweetman-Kirk both having efforts on goal.

City again had the better of the play in the second half and although keeper Sue Wood had to make a cracking save late on diving to her left, every City player can be proud of their efforts in getting the team into a quarter-final away to either Millwall or West Ham.
