Coventry City Ladies are through to the Women's FA Cup Fourth Round after a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at the Ricoh Arena.

There was a reasonable crowd of around two hundfred on a windy afternoon at the Ricoh Arena on a pitch which did not look as good as pitch with this little usage should.

Those present saw Ashley Neville get in to cross for Maz Gauntlett to fire wide in the fourth minute.

Foster's Stoke side responded with a Garside shot winning a corner and Shannon Weston firing wide from the edge of the area.

City countered through Ash Neville and she played in a lovely ball for Helen Dermody to slot home from thirteen yards.

Four minutes later and a great cross from Neville just missed Toussaint at the far post as the Sky Blues who had won 4-1 at Huddersfield in the Second Round, continued to pile on the pressure with Neville drawing a one handed save from Alice Langstone.

City had Dermody booked before they increased their lead in the 35th minute with a great ball from Hayley Ladd picking out Dermody. A good ball from the talented City player found Ashley Neville who kept her cool before beating the advancing keeper.

Destiny Toussaint had two shots but picked up a knock and was replaced at half-time by Natalie Brace.

Stoke were more attack minded at the start of the second half but should have been three goals down in the 58th minute when Dermody fired at Langstone following a Neville cross.

It was three in the 61st minute when the Sky Blues had a free kick and there was Natalie Brace at the far post to fire in for the third.

With Ladd having a fine game in midfield and Lynch and Walton superb in City's defence, the Sky Blues were able to do with what the WPL Northern Division side created.

With eleven minutes left, Kim Walton conceded a penalty and Chantelle Gallagher blasted home the spot kick.

This lifted the visitors briefly, who won an 86th minute corner which was dealt with and eventually cleared to Gauntlett who blasted wide.

In stoppage time, both sides won a corner as they booked their place in Round Four.

City Ladies manager Craig Nicholls said after the win: "it was a good performance in the first half and we knew Stoke would come at us in the second half. "It was just a case of riding the storm out which we did."
