Coventry City Ladies were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup with a Fourth Round home defeat to Leeds United.

Paul Cudby fielded the same team which had beaten Aston Villa in the previous round for this game at Bedworth United’s Oval ground on a sunny afternoon.

Leeds with Stacey Emmonds dictating the play had the better of the first half and took the lead in the 20th minute when Leah Galton raced onto a though ball and round Sue Wood to fire into the empty net from an acute angle.

The first half was a poor affair but the second half started with a bang when Clare Sykes hit the post some ten seconds in and then the Sky Blues sprang into life with substitute Jade Formaston getting in a right footed shot from twenty yards which Draycott pushed round the post for a corner.

City attacked again and won a free kick on the right. The Sky Blues players in their new home kit, packed the box and the ever reliable Leanne McKenna headed home from close range to get City back in the match.

However, parity only lasted for ten minutes when Galton did very well to put in a superb cross which Carey Heggett rose to head in.

City pilled the pressure on as the game entered its closing stages with Goulding and Formaston both getting in headers but City could not find a second goal and bowed out of the competition.

City Ladies are away to Wolves next Sunday in the Birmingham County Cup Semi-Final.
