Coventry City ended their WPL season with a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa which means a sixth place finish in their first ever season in the second flight of women's football.

With Paul Cudby forced to shuffle his pack and includeing debutant Kim Walton, it was Villa who started the stronger. In the fourth minute, Sue Wood in the City goal had to make two saves from Imi Umotong.

City were just starting to get back into the game at Bedworth United following Danni Saulter limped off with a hamstring injury, when Villa took a 27th minute.

Follis got the cross from the right and found Katy Wilkinson who turned and hit a shot which deflected off Natasha Lynch and went into the net.

City played some good football with Emily Simpkins firing at Walsh and a great move in the 38th minute which resulted in Courtney Sweetman-Kirk just missing with a diving header after some neat play.

The second half was three minutes old when Villa attacked down the right through Follis who crossed for Kelly Clarke to head Graham Abercrombie's side into a 2-0 lead.

Both sides lost players to injury before Katy Moran hit the bar with a 65th minute twenty yarder and substitutes Formaston and Dale went close for the Sky Blues.

In the last five minutes, Villa had the second of two corners headed off the line by Callen Barber and Natalie Gibson striking Wood's right hand post from twenty five yards as Villa deservedly took the win.
