Coventry City dug deep into their reserves and came back to record their first ever League Cup Group game 7 with a 2-1 win over Sporting Club Albion.

Paul Cudby was forced to shuffle his pack from the team which had beaten Aston Villa 2-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday and his team were on the back foot for most of the first half against an organised Albion side, who might be a division below the Sky Blues but have had some good scalps recently.

Although both sides had corners, it was the visitors who looked the most likely to score and in the 27th minute, they won a corner which was met by Ashleigh Neville who headed the visitors, who lost 2-0 against Cardiff in their opening Group 7 game,  into the lead.

City failed to find any real rhythm to their play and were reliant on the likes of Leanne McKenna who had a fine game, Callen Barber and Kerry Bartlett before Paul Cudby made a double change in the 58th minute.

He had used all three substitutes by the time Kerry Bartlett got in an 83rd minute shot from just inside the area. The ball struck a defender and Mr Giblin pointed to the spot. Kerry Bartlett got up to take the spot kick and sent the ball high into the net to draw City level.

Robyn James struck the bar at the other end but in the 87th minute, City broke through substitute Nicole Dale. She got to the edge of the area and squared for Kerry Bartlett to lash home, whilst under a challenge which left her needing treatment to give City a win that looked unlikely for most of the match.
