CCFPA helps with Koco CRS’s Memory Project

The Coventry City Former Players Association was recently very happy to respond to a request for help from Coventry city-centre charity – the Koco Community Resource Centre.

Koco CRS is a registered charity working for the local community in Spon End and surrounding areas. They are project based and provide conference, training and seminar facilities , meeting rooms, and a variety of office space aimed at supporting new businesses of all sizes and types (especially in the non-profit, community and social enterprise sector). Their charitable work includes offering free meeting space for community groups together with various projects which aim bring people closer to employment and improve social cohesion.

CCFPA has offered help with one of the projects at the Centre. The Reminiscence Project, as Admin Support Officer, Grant Murray explains, is designed to encourage older people to optimise and exercise their memories. In particular the project supports people suffering from dementia/ Alzheimers by setting up a ‘memory cafe’ utilising a variety of memory boxes to help older people reminisce about the past. CCFPA Membership Secretary Mike Young has organised the supply of a collection of Sky Blues’ programmes, cigarette cards and other football memorabilia to equip some of these memory boxes and hopefully help the Project’s participants recall Sky Blues’ games, players and achievements from the 1960s-2000s.

Koco CRS and CCFPA are also in discussion about perhaps arranging a guest visit to one of the Reminiscence groups by one or more of our Former Players in the future.

If any of our readers wishes to help Koco CRS in this work please contact Grant direct on02476714988 or through their website:-(http://www.kococommunity.org.uk).
