This means the Sky Blues are now a point behind the Lions and five behind fourth placed Walsall who lost 2-1 at home to Wigan Athletic who went second in the table.
Gillingham are down to third after a 2-1 defeat at Oldham and Sheffield United are seventh four points behind City after a 1-0 home win against Port Vale.
Bradford City are also on 48 points following a 2-2 home draw with Rochdale.
Bottom side Colchester lost 5-2 at Bury, with second from bottom Crewe losing 3-1 at Chesterfield whilst Fleetwood moved out of the bottom four with a 2-1 win against Scunthorpe.
Elsewhere, Barnsley beat Doncaster 1-0 and Swindon beat Blackpool 3-2.
