City are five points clear of fourth from bottom Colchester United who won 1-0 at third from bottom Yeovil, six ahead of Leyton Orient who lost 2-0 at Barnsley and six ahead of Crewe who beat League One leaders Bristol City 1-0.
Bristol City lead the table by a point from MK Dons who thrashed Oldham 7-0 and Swindon who were beaten 1-0 by Doncaster. Preston, 1-0 winners at Peterborough United are fourth with Sheffield United who drew 1-1 with Walsall fifth and Rochdale who drew 2-2 with Notts County in sixth.
Elsewhere, Bradford City drew 1-1 with Scunthorpe and Gillingham were beaten 3-2 at home by Chesterfield,
