City Consider Kyle Appeal

Coventry City manager Iain Dowie is to watch a dvd of the incident which saw striker Kevin Kyle sent off at Blackpool on Saturday to see if there is grounds for an appeal.

The Scot for whom this was his first ever straight red, was accused of elbowing Shaun Barker on the half hour mark and told the CT: "He has conned the referee because he rolled around like a big kid and then got up.

"There was no blood, no cuts to his face, no nothing - it's embarrassing and players like that don't get any respect.

"I am willing to put myself on the line every week for my team and get hurt and kicked properly with bumps and scratches all over the place, but he cons the referee and we are down to 10 men and it's rubbish.

"I have only been sent off once before in my career and that was for two silly yellow cards, so I have never shown any malice to anyone before.

"So that is embarrassing and I am annoyed with the referee, the crowd's reaction and more so with the defender because it is an embarrassment for him. "Hopefully we will go ahead with an appeal but nowadays when someone lifts their arm there aren't many that get turned round regardless of whether there is intent or not.

"The only person who knows whether there is any intent is the person who has done it and I know that I didn't intend to elbow anyone."

Barker has denied any play acting saying to the Blackpool Gazette: "I've never gone down for no reason. I'm not one to dive. He just elbowed me in the face," said Barker.

"I tried to get up quite soon after I went down but he definitely caught me so it is a red card.

"Kyle said he didn't mean it but I find that quite strange. You wouldn't do it in the first place if you didn't mean it. "The ref was only six yards away and he thought it was a red card, which I totally agreed with.

"Dowie was saying a few things from the dugout towards me. He was accusing me of getting their striker sent off but I wasn't going to get sucked into that. "Iain has been around a long time and he knows what to do, to try and get players wound up. I was having none of it."
