City Boss Put Reid Forward For Nuneaton Job

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that he put Brian Reid's name for the Nuneaton Town manager's job.

Many were thinking who Reid was, when he was appointed on Thursday afternoon and Steven Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: He’s a very good friend of mine; I’ve known Brian since we played together as young players at Rangers and have kept in touch.

“He has been down to Coventry several times this season to see us train and watch our games, and he’s been doing scouting for us in Scotland.

“We put his name forward and then he was interviewed and Nuneaton obviously liked what they heard from him.

“He’s worked with Ayr United who, in terms of resources, are very similar to Nuneaton in the respect of being part-time with a similar budget.

“So he’s worked in that environment. He did a really good job there with limited resources, getting them to the semi-finals of the national cup competition and he’s experienced winning two promotions with them in the lower leagues in Scotland.

“He went away from his family, which includes two kids, to work in the Philippines for a year so I think that shows the type of commitment he has, and he’s desperate to make an impact in England.

“His philosophies are similar to what we have at Coventry in that he likes his teams to press and pass the ball, and I’m delighted for him.

“I hope it’s exciting times ahead for Nuneaton. Not to put too much pressure on him but when you look at their resources this year and fact they are a part-time club, people could argue they’ve over achieved. So it’s not an easy job but one in which I would hope he could make an impact.”
