The solicitor of Coventry City Associate Director and Nuneaton Town Chairman Ian Neale has hit out about the arrest of Mr Neale during Nuneaton's game with Eastwood Town on Saturday.

Mr Neale was taken away in a police car from Nuneaton's Liberty Way Stadium on Saturday following an alleged incident on Friday night.

In a statement, Mr Neale's solicitor Michael Stephenson told the CT: "My client was not only shocked and amazed that he was arrested on the basis of allegations of common assault in breach of Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 but also the manner in which it was done.

"Notwithstanding the fact that we put the police on notice that we were representing Ian with a view to arranging a mutually convenient time for him to voluntarily attend the police station, he was unfortunately arrested without prior reference to ourselves.

"This caused considerable distress to my client and his family. "Ian is a well respected local businessman and member of the local community in his capacity of both Nuneaton Town Football Club and the Nuneaton Community Foundation and totally refutes these allegations."
