City Announcer Sacked From His Day Job

Coventry City and Coventry Blaze matchday announcer John Dalziel has been sacked by Coventry radio station Mercia FM.

Dalziel, whose "Welcome To The Ricoh" mantra has annoyed thousands of City supporters, was hosting a competition on Wednesday morning's Breakfast Show.

However, problems receiving texts meant that there was no actual winner. Instead of postponing the competition,Dalziel and his co-presenter Roisin Gibbons found someone to pose as a winner.

This is contrary to Ofcom policy and Mr Dalziel was sacked yesterday and all traces of him removed from the Mercia FM website.

Said Dave Fisher, Mercia FM MD to the CT: "This was a breach of Ofcom regulations and something John and Roisin knew they shouldn't have done. "Obviously it is really important we are honest with our listeners and they can trust us to play fair. So unfortunately, although I think they are both tremendous broadcasters, we had to terminate the contracts of John and Roisin. "We announced an apology on air this morning which has been going out every hour after the news."

All those who entered the competition were entered into a new draw and a winner was selected.

There has been no news as to whether this dismissal will affect his position at Coventry City and Coventry Blaze.
